Developing your musicianship – it’s easier than you think!
Date: Saturday February 8
Time: 10:30 – 12:30
Place: Upstairs at Metropolitan (Met Hall)
One of the most valuable programs offered by the RCCO is the annual series of exams. Completing an exam not only helps organists become better church musicians, but also allows them to move up the pay-scale at their organization. Despite these benefits, very few members ever participate in the exam program. Many organists would say they could never do an exam, often for at least one of the explanations below:
1. The practical skills required (transposition, score-reading, sight-reading) are too difficult
2. I don’t have a good enough ear to pass the dictation component
3. I don’t remember the music theory I learned so the written component is too much work
While the exams are certainly a challenge, with the right approach anyone can be successful. In this workshop, Gregg will lay out a simple daily plan for exam preparation and general musicianship improvement. He will give many examples and resource suggestions, as well as practical advice for advancing your skills in transposition, sight-reading, score-reading and dictation. As we say in the Metropolitan Choir School “anyone can do it if they try with all their might.” Refreshments will be provided.
